Duties
Employee will be assigned to Engineering Service, Design Section, VA San Diego Healthcare System, San Diego, CA, preparing contract drawings and specifications for competitive bid construction and maintenance repair work at the facility and outpatient clinic level projects. Duties include, but may not be limited to the following:
- Prepares contract drawings and specifications for competitively bid construction and maintenance repair work at the facility; and prepares drawings for outpatient clinic (OPC) level projects, including architectural design, mechanical and electrical design, fire sprinkler design, lighting design, plumbing, heating, air conditioning, ventilation, and asbestos abatement design.
- Prepares detailed cost estimates for competitively bid construction projects and maintenance and repair work.
- Serves as Contracting Officer's Representative (COR) on projects and inspects competitively bid construction and maintenance and repair projects to ensure compliance with drawings and specifications.
- Coordinates all projects with using service, from conception to completion; performs assessments in areas of maintenance and repair or remodeling; reviews change order requests form contractors for accuracy and cost control; assists consulting architects and engineers with design of competitively bid construction; and provides existing as built drawings, field measurements, VA construction standards and specifications.
- Reviews shop drawings and submittals from contractors; prepares construction progress reports and payment requests for contract construction projects; and maintains record drawings of all station and domiciliary structures and grounds utilizing AutoCAD programs.
- Performs energy audits of buildings and building service equipment and systems; assists with preparation of medical center and domiciliary safety and fire protection plan and disaster plan; assists with accident investigation, review of safety suggestions; and assists with preparation of reports pertaining to all engineering matters.
WORK SCHEDULE: Monday - Friday, 8:00am - 4:30pm.
