This position will be filled at either the developmental GS-5, GS-06 or full-performance GS-07 level. If selected at the GS-05 or GS-06 level, the incumbent will have non-competitive promotion potential to the GS-07 level.

You will serve as Administrative Support Assistant performing work related to the practical and technical aspects of office administration in areas that include, but are not limited to budgeting, supply management and purchasing, personnel administration, time keeping, data processing, reporting and files management.

Experience required:
Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social).  You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

To qualify based on your experience, your resume must describe at least one year of experience which prepared you to do the work in this job.

Specialized experience for the GS-05 level is defined as: receiving, screening, controlling and monitoring incoming/outgoing mail, reports, and instructions; assigning incoming correspondence; maintaining control records; visitor assistance; asset management; funds accountability; reservations/annual pass fee collection and cost tracking; orally and in written communication; draft, proof read, and correct correspondence; perform file and record maintenance; and account for employee time and attendance. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-04). 

Specialized experience for the GS-06 level is defined as: performing clerical and administrative work in an office setting; ordering office supplies and equipment; using word processing software to produce a variety of documents (i.e. correspondence, memorandums, letters, reports, etc.); receiving incoming mail and disburse to appropriate employees. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-05). 

Specialized experience for the GS-07 level is defined as: handling staff members' questions regarding general personnel knowledge; making purchase orders and monitoring supply levels for an office; project and estimate fiscal year allocations of contractual and non-contractual commitments and obligations; utilize timekeeping tools to record area office and resident office time and monitor annual and sick leave usage; use office automation software to create documents or reports. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-06).
In addition to meeting experience or education requirements, applicants must show possession of the following skills. Type 40 words per minute based on a 5 minute sample with three or fewer errors. Applicants may meet these requirements by passing the appropriate performance test, presenting a certificate of proficiency from a school or other organization authorized to issue such certificates by the Office of Personnel Management local office, or by self-certifying their proficiency.
You will be evaluated on the basis of your level of competency (knowledge, skills, abilities) in the following areas:

• KNOWLEDGE OF BUDGET MANAGEMENT IN AN OFFICE SETTING
• KNOWLEDGE OF CONTRACT ADMINISTRATION
• KNOWLEDGE OF TIMEKEEPING PROCEDURES
• ABILITY TO USE OFFICE AUTOMATION SOFTWARE
• KNOWLEDGE OF PERSONNEL RULES AND REGULATIONS

To qualify based on your education at the GS- 05 level, you must possess 4 years of education above high school obtained in an accredited business, secretarial or technical school, junior college, college or university. For GS-5 level positions (except Clerk-Stenographer, which does not require specialized experience), only education in excess of the first 60 semester hours (i.e., beyond the second year) is creditable toward meeting the specialized experience requirement. One full academic year of study (30 semester hours) beyond the second year is equivalent to 6 months of specialized experience.(NOTE: You must attach a copy of your transcripts for verification) OR a combination of education and experience which when combined is equivalent to the minimum qualifications. As a general rule, education is not creditable above GS-5 for most positions in this series; however, graduate education may be credited in those few instances where the graduate education is directly related to the work of the position.
