SBI Youth for India fellowship

What is SBI Youth for India Fellowship?

SBI Youth for India Fellowship is the flagship program of SBi foundation. It is a 13-moths long fellowship that enables youth to work on rural development projects in partnership with experienced renowned NGOs.

Financial Support for SBI Youth for India Fellow:

• A monthly allowance of 15000 INR for the duration of the programme to meet your living expenses.
• A monthly allowance of 1000 INR for the duration of the programme to meet your transport expenses.
• A readjustment allowance of 50000 INR upon successful completion of the Fellowship.
• The cost of the return 3AC fare from your residence to the project site location as well as expenses incurred on travelling for training programmes.
• You will be covered by a med claim policy.

Other Support:

• You will be assisted by the local NGO staff to find suitable accommodation with safety in mind.
• The partner NGO will also arrange for necessary medical attention when needed.

The fellowship provides a framework for India's best minds to join hands with rural communities, empathize with their struggles and connect with their aspirations.

Launched on 1st March 2011, the pilot batch had 27 fellows who successfully completed the fellowship.  The concept received positive feedback from all the stakeholders involved, the considerable impact was assessed on the ground.

Why to join?

India is going through a unique phase.  While its urban population is building a strong case as the next global and economic powerhouse, its rural population is struggling with basic issues like non-availability of potable water, no electricity supply, poor health services, and education facilities.

It is left to India’s next generation of thought leaders, policymakers, professionals and intellectuals to bridge the urban-rural divide and paint a more holistic and inclusive picture of India’s growth.

The important decisions that affect rural areas cannot be taken from the comfort of air-conditioned conference rooms. It is imperative to gain a deeper understanding of the issues which can only be acquired by experiencing them first-hand.

During the 13 months,  SBI youth fellows are given the opportunity to study the rural scenario with open minds. Their interactions with the community is what will help them to prioritize problems and come up with solutions. It is the involvement with the community that matters the most.

What is the structure of SBI Youth for India Fellowship?

SBI Youth for India fellowship program is premeditated to assist fellows to live in a village location and work with the partner NGOs to benefit the community.  The 13-month of the fellowship are broadly divided into three phases; familiarisation, implementation, and sustenance.

How to Join SBI Youth for India fellowship 

ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA

• Young Professionals or Fresh Graduates
• Age 21-32 (as on date of commencement of programme)
• Indian citizen/OCI

SCREENING & SHORTLISTING

• Application forms are out in the first half of the year. We put notifications on our website and social media platforms once we start accepting applications.
• Interested candidates have to register and fill the form.
• Shortlisted candidates are notified on an ongoing basis during the application period. We continuously engage with shortlisted applicants over an online forum to get to know them better as well as clarify their doubts regarding the Fellowship.

INTERVIEWS

Short-listed candidates are called for interview rounds held across major cities in India.

FINAL SELECTION & BACKGROUND RESEARCH

• Candidates selected post-interview will be notified via e-mail and/or SMS.
• On confirmation, a candidate will be sent the offer letter specifying details of the program, fellowship support, and terms and conditions of the fellowship.
• He/She will also have access to further material about the program areas of our partner NGOs. This will help candidates to decide upon preferred NGOs
