Nursing Home Compare (NHC) was updated today, January 29.

NHC is usually updated the fourth Wednesday of every month, but the updates on the first month of the quarter (i.e. January, April, July, October) are more noteworthy. They include updated quality and staffing data. Other monthly updates only include updated survey data.

Quality Measure Data for 2018-Q4 to 2019-Q3 (Oct’18 – Sep’19) Released

With January, April, July, and October releases of Nursing Home Compare, newer quality measure data is typically released. In today’s release, most quality measures on Nursing Home Compare - used to determine your center’s Five-Star Quality Rating - reflect the four-quarter period of 2018-Q4 to 2019-Q3 (October 2018 – September 2019).

Quality Reporting Program (QRP) and claims-based measures have a slightly older time period. See the table below for more details.

Payroll-Based Journal (PBJ) Staffing Data for 2019-Q3 (Jul’19 – Sep’19) Released

Like quality measures, PBJ staffing data typically gets updated once a quarter. With today’s release, Five-Star Staffing Ratings are now based on 2019-Q3 (July 2019 – September 2019) PBJ data.

Expect This Newer Data on LTC Trend Tracker Within a Week

Individual centers have access to see what their public Five-Star Rating will be on January 29th through the CASPER-QIES System. However, if you want to benchmark your ratings by location, such as city or county, or by facility characteristics, such as bed-size or ownership type, you can do so in LTC Trend Tracker in about a week.
