    For grade GS-05:
Applicants must have at least one year (52 weeks) of specialized experience equivalent to grade GS-4 in federal or other service. Note that specialized experience is significantly different than general experience. Specialized experience is that which has equipped you with the particular knowledge, skills and abilities to perform successfully the duties of the position to be filled. Qualifying specialized experience for this position must have included: (1) Generating various types of reports and correspondence; (2) Utilizing office automation software (word processing, spreadsheets, databases) in order to manage information; (3) Scanning, filing, indexing or otherwise electronically filing, organizing and retrieving information; and (4) Reviewing forms or other sources of information in order to determine accuracy and provide assistance to others. Applicants may substitute education for the experience required.

For GS-05: Successful completion of four (4) years of education above the high school level.

One year of full-time academic study is defined as 30 semester hours, 45 quarter hours, or the equivalent in a college or university, or at least 20 hours of classroom instruction per week for approximately 36 weeks in a business, secretarial, or technical school.
There is no education substitution for the GS-06 grade level.
Note: Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religions; spiritual; community; student; social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience that you document, including volunteer experience.

    Education

A transcript must be submitted with your application if you are basing all or part of your qualifications on education.

Only education or a degree recognized by the U.S. Department of Education from an accredited college, university, school or institution may be used to qualify for Federal employment.
