National Solid Waste Management Authority seeks Paralegal Officer (Kingston, Jamaica)

National Solid Waste Management Authority (NSWMA) invites applications from suitably qualified person to fill the position of:

PARALEGAL OFFICER

Reporting to the Legal Officer, the incumbent will carry out a range of legal supprt and administrative functions in the Legal Department. This involves assitingin the conduct of legal and factual research, to support legal opinions and proceedings, and with the preparation of documents necessary to ensure that the department perfomrs its functions in an efficient, effective and lawful manner.

QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED

Education/Experience:

• Degree in Law or Paralegal Studies
• Associates degree in Paralegal Studies
• Two (2) years experience working as a Paralegal

OR

• Diploma in Paralegal Studies
• Three (3) years experience working as a Paralegal

Specific Knowledge and Skills:

• Sound knowledge of Jamaica's Civil and Criminal Laws and procedures in particular:
• Excellent legal research, investigativer and analytical skills
• Good knowledge of legal communication principles, practices and legal terminology
• Awareness of government regulations and procedures
• Ability to follow instructions
• Competence in the use of computer applications i.e. Microsoft Word and Excel
• Knowledge of supreme court and parish court procedures
• Good oral and written communication skills
