Duties

Provides general maintenance, repair and labour services to support grounds, roads and facilities maintenance; construction and installations; and other general maintenance and repair requirements for the Parks Canada Agency. Ensures workplace compliance to occupational health and safety requirements.

You must meet all essential qualifications in order to be appointed to the position. Other qualifications may be a deciding factor in choosing the person to be appointed. In order to be considered, your application must clearly explain how you meet the following (essential qualifications)

Grade 12 or GED equivalent or have an acceptable combination of education, training and experience.
Degree equivalency
• Experience providing labour services in at least one of the following: grounds maintenance, trail maintenance, or equipment and fleet maintenance.
• General experience in building repairs, and/or wire animal fence construction and maintenance.

• Knowledge of Parks Canada and its mandate and values;
• Knowledge of safety practices and safe work procedures;
• Knowledge of the methods of repair and servicing for vehicles and equipment;
• General knowledge of computer use.

• Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing;
• Ability to use and care for both powered and hand tools;
• Ability to work in a wildlife setting.

The following may be applied / assessed at a later date (may be needed for the job)

Preference may be given to persons with a Class 5 Drivers license with air brake endorsement and/or heavy equipment operators certification or relevant experience.
• A Parks Canada Agency uniform, as prescribed for the position, must be worn at all times while performing the duties of the position unless otherwise specifically directed by the Superintendent.
• Must be prepared to work weekends, shift work, overtime and statutory holidays as scheduled.
• Must wear safety equipment as identified by Supervisor.
• Parks Canada prohibits smoking in the workplace.
• Willingness to work in variable and adverse weather conditions.
• Willingness to obtain certification in the operation of equipment, as required.
• It is mandatory that all persons appointed, agree to have their pay deposited directly to a Financial Institution of their choice and to provide the information required for this purpose.
• Must be willing to work and/or travel in varied terrains, weather conditions, and isolated locations.
• Perform physical tasks as per the job requirements-lift and carry up to 45kg repetitively.
• Must be willing to complete any training that pertains to the job.

Conditions of employment

Reliability Status security clearance
Must possess and maintain a valid Class 5 Driver’s License, or equivalent, throughout your employment.

May be required to undergo and pass pre-placement and periodic medical checks.
