The Ministry's Court Services Branch is in need of an enthusiastic and professional individual to provide administrative support to the Provincial Court and to interact with a diverse group of stakeholders.

We are looking for an enthusiastic individual who exemplifies the professional values of the BC Public Service to join our team as a Court Clerk.

Court Services Branch is responsible for the delivery of all court administration services in BC. These consist of registry, trial support and Sheriff Services for all levels of court.  The Registry provides the infrastructure to process documents that are required by the court to ensure timely and effective processing of court cases and support to the justice system.

The Court Clerk will perform duties and counter service (with limited signing authorities) for an integrated Court Registry. The position is responsible for interpreting documentation in court files to ensure accurate information in processing documents and processing court files. The position interacts with members of the public, the bar, and the judiciary.

Burns Lake is the centre of the Lakes District, close to the middle of the province, and can boast 4,828 km of lake shoreline. With some of the province's largest freshwater lakes, such as Babine Lake, activities such as fishing and boating are very popular, as well as hiking, biking, snowmobiling and cross country skiing. Close to Tweedsmuir Provincial Park, it hosts the second largest Aboriginal Day event every year.

Qualifications:
 In order to be considered for this position, your application must clearly demonstrate how you meet the education and experience as outlined below:

  • Secondary School graduation or equivalent.
  • Clerical experience, education and/or training
  • Experience/training in keyboarding, data entry, word processing and other standard computer applications
Preference may be given to the following:
  • Experience working in a legal office environment or court registry.
  • Experience with JUSTIN and/or CEIS is preferred.
  • Experience delivering customer service.

PROVISIOS:

  • May be required to work overtime due to late court sittings and on short notice
  • May be required to work in other areas of Court Services
  • Travel is required which could include travel in adverse weather conditions 
  • Must be flexible with working hours, hours of work vary depending on operational demands
  • Exposure to unpleasant dealings with upset public and clients
  • Holder of a valid B.C. driver’s licence
