Duties
Stream A - Plant Programs:Successful candidates will work with plant health staff to verify compliance with federal acts and regulations.
Duties may include inspecting pedigreed seed crops for varietal purity; soil sampling to detect pale cyst nematode; sampling fertilizers; conducting plant pest surveys; and interacting with producers. These duties involve extensive walking, possibly up to 16 kilometres a day, in variable weather conditions.
Stream B - Meat Hygiene/Food Safety Programs:
Successful candidates will work with veterinary and inspection staff to verify the safety of meat, poultry and/or other food products intended for Canadian and export markets.
Duties may include inspecting animal carcasses, viscera and organs; inspecting processing and slaughter plants and facilities; and inspecting post-slaughter operations and products to verify compliance with federal acts and regulations.
These positions are intended to respond to short-term, seasonal, or critical inspection issues where the focus is on delivery of a single or limited number of program aspects requiring basic knowledge or training.

Conditions of employment
Reliability Status security clearance - Applicants who have not lived in Canada for the past five (or ten, depending on security level) years may be required to submit a police certificate from each country in which they have lived for six months or more during this period, as well as other documentation required for the security screening process. Failure to submit this documentation if requested will eliminate the application from further consideration.
