    Responsibilities

    NOTE: This is a TERM appointment not-to-exceed 4 YEARS (may be extended up to 4 years). Term appointments are non-status, nonpermanent appointments of limited duration (more than 1 year but not more than 4). Term employees are eligible to earn leave and generally have the same benefits as permanent employees including health and life insurance, within-grade increases and Federal Employees Retirement System and Thrift Savings Plan coverage. Term appointments may be extended without further competition (up to the 4 year maximum). The appointment to a Term position does not confer eligibility for promotion or reassignment to other positions or the ability to be non-competitively converted to permanent employment.

    This position, located in the Geriatric Research, Education & Clinical Center (GRECC) department within the James J. Peters VA Medical Center in Bronx, New York, is responsible for the development, administration, and sustainment of geriatrics, gerontology, and palliative care education and training programs.

    Additional duties and responsibilities include, but not limited to:
    • Reviews, analyzes, and evaluates training courses and programs to assess their quality and effectiveness;
    • Provides guidance to operating programs in establishing their internal programs, developing or obtaining training aids, and selecting pertinent government and non-government training resources;
    • Researches, analyzes, and prepares written reports, correspondence, special reports, memos, and letter of support on behalf of leadership;
    • Develops nationally funded education grants and proposals - to include conceptualization, research, writing, budget preparation, and letter of support;
    • Manages all administrative aspects of the grant (i.e. meetings, minutes, academic affiliates, reports, etc.);
    • Develops trainee and faculty curricula, including webinars and modules;
    • Manages a large VA SharePoint site designed for a program trainees and faculty;
    • Develops educational presentations for state conferences, national conferences and facility clinical staff/trainees pertaining to geriatrics and gerontology - to include research, analysis and development of PowerPoint and poster presentations;
    • Manages GRECC Associated Health Seminar Series - to include scheduling speakers, yearly curriculum development and editing of all modules, facilitation of each seminar session, copying and dissemination of all materials, rooms reservations, room set-up and clean-up, teaching at least two sessions/year, coordinating end-of semester sessions in fall and spring, and program evaluation;
    • Coordinates all audio and video teleconferencing of academic sessions with academic affiliates;
    • Serves as geriatrics content expert for virtual learning community website;
    • Monitors and ensures staff compliance of all mandatory trainings;
    • Performs web-based research via Medline, PubMed, Google Scholar, etc., as well as literature searches; and
    • Performs other related duties as assigned.
    Work Schedule: Monday thru Friday, 8:00am to 4:30pm
