Duties


This position involves a multi-grade career ladder. The major duties listed below represent the full performance level of GS-07. At the GS-06 grade level, you will perform assignments of a more limited scope and with less independence. You will progressively acquire the background necessary to perform at the full performance level of GS-07. Promotion is at the discretion of the supervisor and is contingent upon satisfactory performance, availability of higher level work, and availability of funds.
Employee will be assigned to the Consolidated Patient Accounts Center (CPAC), Minneapolis, MN, validating and auditing potential third party reimbursable insurance claims for release. Duties include, but may not be limited to the following:
  • Reviews first party receivables to ensure applicable co-pays; collects, compiles, and tracks data and program specific information in support of revenue; evaluates and performs a detailed analysis of data received from various sources; generates a variety of reports; reviews documents, reports, and applications for omissions and inconsistencies ensuring data is complete and accurate; enters information into an automated tracking system; and maintains accurate program specific data for maximum reimbursement.
  • Provides answers to customer service inquiries; and determines the best course of action to resolve inquires relating to health insurance, means and co-payment testing, and account receivables.
  • Provides patient education and assistance to help veterans and their families understand the program; and provides helpful and courteous service to patients, insurance carriers, including external agencies and other business entities, conveying a professional businesslike attitude.
  • Utilizes knowledge of the full range of healthcare support functions and operators such as: account receivables management, billing, health information management, patient access, compliance, insurance, financial reporting, requirements for pre-admission, as well as medical terminology, coding requirements, and use varying computerized software and databases.
Work Schedule: Monday - Friday, 8:00am - 4:30pm.
