Duties
NOTE: This position is a developmental position in the VA Technical Career Field Training Program and as such is managed with specific criteria associated with the position. The goal of the program is to prepare you for assignments nationally. You will be subject to the following requirements listed below:
1. As part of the VA's succession planning, the Technical Career Field (TCF) training program was created to ensure individuals are trained in critical areas that have current or predicted shortages. The program is nationally funded to include salary, benefits and training/travel dollars. At the time of acceptance into the TCF program, trainees will be asked to sign mobility, training, and service agreements. Relocation expenses for acceptance into the training program or for placement are not funded by the TCF program. Please keep in consideration, the training program is meant for those individuals who plan on staying with the VA a minimum of 3-years after completion of their training program.
2. Although not guaranteed, with more than 150 freestanding facilities and hundreds of clinic locations, we will strive to place trainees in positions that will work for him/her and the needs of the VA.
This position involves a multi-grade career ladder. The major duties listed below represent the full performance level of GS-11. At the GS-7 grade level, you will perform assignments of a more limited scope and with less independence. You will progressively acquire the background necessary to perform at the full performance level of GS-11. Promotion is at the discretion of the supervisor and is contingent upon satisfactory performance, availability of higher level work, and availability of funds.
This position is located in the Veterans Health Administration of the Department of Veterans Affairs – VA NY Harbor Health Care System Manhattan Campus New York, NY
The Health Informatics Specialist work is health-oriented in nature, and requires knowledge and skills gained from education, on the job training, developmental assignments, and/or experience in a health science or allied scientific field, such as Health Informatics.
- Inputs and retrieves data, prepares analyses and presents recommendations to senior specialists, supervisor, or others as may be appropriate.
- Participates with senior analysts in educating employees on methods and means to make healthcare operations more effective and efficient.
- Develops tools and training guides for the user and participates in delivering training and educational programs to others as appropriate to knowledge and skill level.
- Collects, analyzes and provides feedback on effectiveness of training and suggests improvements/enhancements.
- Conducts evaluations of clinical software needs and makes recommendations.
- Receives developmental assignments and formal training in project management.
- Performs other duties as assigned that are directly related to development as a Program Analyst.
