Duties

If selected for this position, you will join a well-respected team that is responsible for planning, implementing, and administering budget and financial management services. Typical work assignments will include:

-Gathering, extracting, reviewing, verifying and consolidating a variety of narrative information and statistical data needed for budget operations and financial reporting
-Assisting in entering obligations. amendments. delivery and all actions into the official financial system
-Assisting in running reports as appropriate to research obligation efforts and anomalies.
-Cross-checking the accuracy of budget and program data in related budgetary forms, schedules and reports.
-Recommending adjustments of inconsistent totals, subtotals and individual entries.

Responsibilities will increase and assignments will become more complex as your training and experience progress.

Qualifications

To be qualified for the GS-7, you must possess 1 year of specialized experience performing routine and recurring budget duties such as: gathering, extracting, reviewing, verifying and consolidating a variety of financial information and statistical data; cross-checking the accuracy and consistency of budget and program data; or comparing figures in current estimates of funding needs by budget category or object class.
OR Education: (1) full year of graduate level education. Education must be in a closely related field that must demonstrate the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work (e.g., Accounting, Financial Management, Public Administration, Business Administration.) One year of full-time graduate education is considered to be the number of credit hours that the school attended has determined to represent 1 year of full-time study. If that information cannot be obtained from the school, l8 semester hours should be considered as satisfying the 1 year of full-time study requirement; or have a Bachelor's degree with one of the following Superior Academic Achievement provisions: (1) Class Standing: rank in the upper one-third of a college, university, or major subdivision; OR (2) Grade Point Average (G.P.A.): Applicants must have a grade point average of (a) 3.0 or higher out of a possible 4.0 ("B" or better) as recorded on their official transcript, or as computed based on 4 years of education, or as computed based on courses completed during the final 2 years of the curriculum; OR (b) 3.5 or higher out of a possible 4.0 ("B+" or better) based on the average of the required courses completed in the major field or the required courses in the major field completed during the final 2 years of the curriculum OR (3) Election to membership in a national scholastic honor society: Applicants can be considered eligible based on membership in one of the national scholastic honor societies listed by the Association of College Honor Societies.

OR a Combination of Experience and Education: A combination of specialized experience as described in A and graduate-level education as described in B which when combined equal 100% of the requirements. In order to qualify based on a combination, successfully completed graduate education and experience may be used to meet total qualification requirements.


To be qualified for the GS-9 you must possess at least one full year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-7 level in Federal service obtained in either the private or public sector performing the following types of duties: gathering statistical data needed for financial reporting, reviewing the accuracy of budget and program data, monitoring obligations and expenditures, and compiling budget requests.

OR, Education: have one of the following types of education in a closely related field (e.g., Accounting, Financial Management, Public Administration, Business Administration): a Master's or equivalent graduate degree; OR 2 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree; OR LL.B or J.D., if related.

OR, a combination of specialized experience and graduate-level education, which when combined equal 100% of the requirements. In order to qualify, based on a combination, graduate education must be in excess of 1 full year. To calculate your percentage of graduate education, first determine the total number of graduate hours that exceed 18 semester hours (or your school's definition of one year of graduate study), then divide the total number of your excess graduate semester hours by 18 (or your school's definition of one year of graduate study).

Interagency Career Transition Assistance Plan (ICTAP)- The ICTAP provides eligible displaced Federal competitive service employees with selection priority over other candidates for competitive service vacancies.
