Are you an excellent writer who is interested in public policy? The USPS OIG is seeking students enrolled in college/university programs to fill our Student Cooperative - (Paid) position in the Risk Analysis Research Center (RARC) located in Arlington, VA. We are looking for an academic achiever who is intellectually curious, loves to research and write, and is comfortable working both independently and as part of a team. The selected candidate will work for RARC, the OIG's research group, which digs into economic, business, and policy trends affecting the U.S. Postal Service. RARC's body of work has touched on a wide variety of topics, from reporting mail use by region, to exploring innovations in 3D printing and blockchain technology, and conducting neuromarketing studies. The Student Cooperative will work collaboratively with staff to help create and edit materials for RARC white papers and OIG blogs. The position requires excellent writing and critical thinking skills, and experience with quantitative data analysis is preferable. The Student Cooperative Program is available for continuous employment throughout the year, while enrolled in school. The selected candidate will work between 15 and 20 hours per week.

Candidates will be evaluated on the skills that they possess that are directly related to the duties of the position and/or the experience, education and training that indicate the applicant's ability to acquire the particular knowledge and skills needed to perform the duties of the position. Only those candidates who meet all qualification and eligibility requirements and who submit the required information by 11:59 PM EST on 08/04/2017will be considered.

The USPS OIG uses a Pay Banding system, which is equivalent to the Federal GS scale. Grade and salary determinations will be made based upon a candidate's education and professional experience.

This position is being advertised at the Administrative Band level. The base salary range for this position is $13-$17/hour. Locality Pay is authorized.

Sophomore $13.00 per hour plus locality pay
Junior/Senior $15.00 per hour plus locality pay
Graduate or Law Student $17.00 per hour plus locality pay

Duties

The student cooperative performs specialized duties with continuing responsibility for projects, questions, or issues that arise in the area of assignment/curriculum. Each assignment typically consists of a series of related actions or decisions prior to final completion.
  • Research new technologies, digital innovations, and emerging business models relevant to the Postal Service.
  • Engage in outreach to innovative organizations, including setting up interviews and site visits.
  • Write and edit research papers, short articles, the team's bimonthly newsletter, and analytical documents for both internal and external audiences.
  • Create graphics and videos to support research projects.
  • Help organize workshops and roundtables; and
  • Provide basic office assistance.
