About the Agency

The selectee for this position will serve as a Medical Instrument Technician, in the Navy Warfighter Refractive Surgery Center, of NAVAL MEDICAL CENTER-San Diego.

Duties

The successful selectee will perform the following duties:

• Assist in a variety of clinical and surgical support activities.
• Perform a wide variety of complex non-invasive ophthalmic studies
• Utilize complex, specialized, state of the art ophthalmic imagery equipment.
• Maintain and prepare specific equipment and select scans for patient examination.
• Gather data for patient files, studies and reports.
• Maintain accurate patient files and reports.

Qualifications

In order to qualify for this position, your resume must provide sufficient experience and/or education, knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the duties of the specific position for which you are being considered. Your resume is the key means we have for evaluating your skills, knowledge, and abilities as they relate to this position. Therefore, we encourage you to be clear and specific when describing your experience.

Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialize experience at or equivalent to the GS-08 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following:

• Performing a wide variety of complex non-invasive ophthalmic studies on patients/research subjects.
• Performing technically critical examinations, reviewing consult requests and taking a brief history to identify patient problems.
• Setting up specific equipment and selecting scans from various imaging platforms.
• Performing a variety of critical and surgical support activities to include assisting in the operating room as a Laser Operator for various refractive surgery platforms, slit lamp examination, contact lens insertion and removal.

Applicants may substitute the following education for the required experience, provided it demonstrates the knowledge, skills and abilities necessary to do the work of the position: successful completion of a full 2 year course of graduate level education leading to a master's degree or a master's degree at an accredited university or college directly related to the work of the position.
