OIG is organized into three line elements: the Offices of Investigations, Audits and Evaluations, and Healthcare Inspections; along with the Office of Contract Review and the Office of Management and Administration. In addition to the Washington, DC, headquarters, OIG has offices located in more than 30 cities throughout the country.
The Investigative Assistant, located in the Office of Investigations Administrative Investigations Division, is responsible for conducting administrative investigations into allegations of misconduct, abuse, or gross mismanagement by senior Department officials and participating in multidisciplinary teams on high-level or sensitive projects, such as those requested by congressional committees or the Secretary.

Duties
The following are the duties of this position at the GS-09. If you are selected at a lower grade level, you will have the opportunity to learn to perform all these duties, and will receive training to help you grow in this position.
• Receive investigative reports from Special Agents (SA), input case data into the Master Case Index (MCI) management information system, develop narrative case summaries for entry into MCI, and ensure data entry is accurate and complete.
• Generate various progress reports from MCI for the Special Agent in Charge (SAC) or Resident Agent in Charge (RAC) and generate various statistical reports from MCI for inclusion in the OI’s submission to the Semiannual Report to Congress.
• Extract background information from various computerized database systems, including the National Crime Information Center, Public Access to Court Electronic Records, SHARE, CLEAR, and Payment Advice Internet Delivery.
• Assist the SAs on-site with collecting and cataloging information.
• Fully responsible for the purchase, distribution, and management of supplies.
