This position is covered by Administratively Uncontrollable Overtime (AUO) and additional compensation may be paid at the rate of up to 25% of the base salary.

- Protect the President, the Vice President, and other leaders; investigate threats against them; and safeguard their residences and other facilities
- Plan and implement security designs for National Special Security Events
- Investigate financial crimes including fraud, identity theft and computer-based attacks on banking or telecommunications infrastructure

Duties
The selectee will serve as an Information Specialist (IT) in the Office of the Chief Information Officer, Information Resources Technology Operations Division. Typical work assignments include:
- Installing, operating, and maintaining Secret Service data networked equipment, components, operating systems and applications software, such as, personal computers, printers, scanners, local area networks, servers, tape back-up systems, wide area networks, routers, switches, hubs, leased circuits, firewalls, intrusion detection systems, network management systems and wide variety of other types of networking equipment.
- Analyzing and defining network requirements. Defining and maintaining network architecture and infrastructure; configuring and optimizing network servers, hubs, routers, and switches; analyzes and monitors network workload, capacity and performance and diagnoses and resolves a variety of network problems.
- Developing network backup and recovery procedures; installing, testing, maintaining, and upgrading network operating systems software; and/or ensuring the rigorous application of information security/information assurance policies, principles, and practices in the delivery of network services.
- Collecting and interpreting network traffic patterns to ensure network availability and quality of service. Evaluating traffic load patterns and projects trends to determine whether changes are needed to ensure network availability.
- Designing, recommending, procuring and installing enhancements to the data networking and enterprise server architecture. Evaluates, procures, and maintains a wide variety of hand-held, desktop, laptop and mobile computing devices used by Secret Service employees.
- Acquiring, configuring and maintaining local area network servers for offices throughout the Secret Service. Provides server administration and management procedures and guidelines for the operation and management of the local area network servers. Researches, evaluates, and tests new server hardware and software and provides customer assistance related to LAN servers.
- Appling proper security practices, procedures, and techniques (e.g. firewalls, intrusion detection, etc.) to ensure the security posture of the network. Researches security violations in order to identify and resolve security alarms using a variety of network and security management systems.
- Resolving all activities related to the acquisition, configuration, installation, and maintenance of PCs, PDAs and other end user computing devices used by the Secret Service. Analyzes and troubleshoots all complex technical problems and provides customer assistance on a variety of end user computing related questions. Researches and tests new end user computing devices and software. Provides a wide variety of problem resolution assistance to the user community (e.g. Personal computer hardware/software, mainframe applications, electronic messaging, information security and telecommunications).
