The selectee for this position will serve as a Transportation Assistant (Freight) at Naval Supply Systems Command (NAVSUP) Fleet Logistics Center Puget Sound, in the Strategic Systems Programs (SSP) Supply Support Department (S3D), Physical Distribution Division (Code 502.3) in Bangor, Washington.  As a Transportation Assistant (Freight), the selectee will perform traffic management functions in support of the movement of goods for the SSP Supply Support Department.

Duties

• Assists with completing material movement documents.
• Prepare shipping documents for hazardous and/or other special materials.
• Arranges for transportation, assists with bills of landing and processes shipments.
• Processes claims for freight that has incorrect qualities or is damaged.
• Interacts with carriers to schedule incoming/outgoing shipments, to change delivery schedules, or to coordinate road clearances and routing of outsized cargo.

Applicants must meet the following positive education qualifications requirements of the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualifications Standards Manual:
Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to at least the next lower grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector performing duties such as securing carriers to arrange for pick, delivery, and storage of shipments; identifying the mode or combination of modes, types of special equipment, and services required for shipments; and advising customers of inadequacies or inaccuracies in shipping request and related documentation. Examples of qualifying specialized experience include some or all of the following: 1) Performing work to arrange transportation for or performing other actions in connection with the movement of general freight by Government or commercial means; 2) Recommending mode of transportation for shipments; 3) Preparing and processing transportation claims; 4) Knowledge of transport-based information systems to track incoming and outgoing shipments; and 5) Shipping hazardous and/or classified cargo.

REQUIREMENTS
All qualifications and requirements must be met by the closing date of this announcement and clearly documented in your resume.

Security Clearance
-Must be able to obtain an interim and/or final (e.g., confidential/secret/top secret, etc.) security clearance prior to entrance on duty AND must be able to maintain the required level of clearance while employed in the subject position.  Failure to obtain and maintain the required level of clearance may result in the withdrawal of a job offer or removal.
-This position requires a SECRET security clearance due to the requirement to arrange for shipment of classified material.
-This is a Non-Critical Sensitive position.  The incumbent must undergo a Personnel Security Investigation on initial appointment and every 10 years thereafter, resulting in a favorable eligibility determination for assignment or retention to a sensitive national security position, regardless of the requirement to access classified material or information.

Work Environment
-Some stooping and bending may be required
-Work is normally performed in a well-lighted and ventilated warehouse area, which subjects the selectee to moderate risk due to noise, fumes, dust, moving Material Handling Equipment, etc.

180 Days Waiver
-Within the Department of Defense (DoD), the appointment of retired military members within 180 days immediately following retirement date to a civilian position is subject to the provisions of 5 United States Code 3326.
